Food has a unique way of uniting people, especially in a diverse city like Bengaluru where food enthusiasts have abundant dining choices. The Dastarkhwan Club, a local food community, organizes meet-ups to explore the city's culinary scene and foster friendships among like-minded individuals. According to co-founder Akash Devaraju, the connection formed is more than just about food; it is a mix of various interests rooted in a shared love for food. Tharini Thakur, another member, emphasizes that the community celebrates a variety of interests centered around a mutual passion for food. The club's popularity has grown rapidly, with over 60 members in the WhatsApp group and 600 pending RSVPs for events. The joy of sharing meals and the connections made through food are unparalleled, as Akash recounts the initial inspiration for starting the club during a memorable Iftaar meal outing with friends. The club's name, Dastarkhwan, was derived from a colleague's suggestion during one of their gatherings. Member Abhishek Gupta highlights the personalized and insightful experiences gained from participating in the club's activities, such as cooking with a Kashmiri individual and gaining a taste of history through shared meals. He mentioned the importance of immersing oneself in the culture and traditions, while Meghna appreciated the unique and well-curated events that involve individuals from specific cultures explaining everything. The communal enjoyment of food includes: Rozana - dining at a restaurant with the owner sharing culinary history insight, Safarnama - food walks exploring food streets with a group, and Mehfil - people welcoming others into their homes to experience their culture.
